ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Research Centre, Udhagamandalam organized 2-1 day Winter School on “Advanced Technologies in Natural Resource Management to Mitigate Climate Change Impacts” from 9th - 29th November, 2017. The event was sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
Dr. K. Rajan, Principal Scientist and course Director welcomed the gatherings and explained about the programme.
Dr. S.B. Thampi, Deputy Director General, Indian Meteorological Department, Tamil Nadu Region was the chief guest of the valedictory function. In his address, he stressed the need to anlayse the causes for climate change and remedies to mitigate the effects. He urged the participants to make use of the knowledge gained here to convert the threats of climate change effects into opportunities.
Shri. Amar Kushwaha IAS, Project Director, Special Area Development Programme (SADP) was the guest of honor. He emphasized on the use of location specific and viable technologies to address the climate change issues. Shri. Kushwaha also stressed the need create awareness about climate change effects at the grass root level to mitigate and adopt to the climate change as it is not possible to completely stop climate change effects.
The 21 days program covered wide variety of topics like climate extreme events, food security, climate models, monsoon behavior, climate smart agriculture, watershed hydrology, soil and water conservation measures and many topics related to climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies.
Scientists and professors from research organizations and universities from different states participated in this training programme.
