ICAR-Sponsored 10-day Short Course on “Recent advances in processing technologies for Value addition of jute and allied fibers” was inaugurated in ICAR-National Institute of Research on Jute and Allied Fibre Technology, Kolkata on 11th December 2017.
Dr. Swapan Kumar Ghosh, Professor & Head, Department of Jute and Fibre Technology, Institute of Jute Technology, University of Calcutta, Kolkata & Chief Guest of the program stressed the development of cost-effective and sustainable processing technologies for jute based textiles. He also urged for collaborative R&D work on the jute based technical textiles, functional textiles and composite products.
Dr. Alok Nath Roy, Director (Acting) briefed about the need of product diversification from jute & allied fibres in his address.
Dr. S.K. Biswas, Ex-Director, DJD, Guest of Honour of the event highlighted the issues on marketing of raw jute and the problems faced by the jute sector in competition with the synthetic fibres.
Training manual of the short course was released by the chief guest.
Thirteen participants from different states of the country participated in the short course.
