ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubneshwar hosted the ICAR-WorldFish Collaborative Research Strategy Development Workshop at Bhubaneswar (17-18 July, 2018). The workshop was conducted to discuss and chalk out the research strategy to formulate a collaborative research project.
Dr. J. K. Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science & Animal Science)in his opening remarks briefed the genesis of the collaborations and emphasized the need for the detailed discussions among the partner institutions so that a comprehensive 5 years research programme can be prepared that will benefit both the organizations.
Dr. Mike Phillips,Director (Fisheries & Aquaculture), WorldFish made a brief presentation on the FISH CRP strategy and result framework. He also highlighted the various research activities addressed by the WorldFish at global level.
Dr. Ravishankar, Director, ICAR-CIFT presented a brief overview of the ICAR-CIFT and Dr. Susheela Mathews, Head, Biochemistry & Nutrition detailed the proposed work plan with special reference to the theme ‘Fish value chain and Human nutrition’.
Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore made an extensive presentation on the future work plan for the theme ‘Small scale Fisheries management’.
Dr. B. R. Pillai, Director,ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar put forth Institute’s views on collaborative work with WorldFish under the theme area of Sustainable Aquaculture.
Dr. Jan Brouwers, Wageningen University, Netherlands briefed about the concept of “Theory of Change” (TOC) and conducted the workshop.
The workshop focussed upon the TOC as a mechanism for translating research outputs to development outcomes and impact in relation to three areas- sustainable aquaculture, small scale fisheries, value chains and nutrition.
The event was attended by representatives from MSSRF, International Potato Centre, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Aquaculture, USAID, Department of Fisheries and Animal Resource, Govt. of Odisha, MPEDA, KVK, Agricultural Skill Council of India (ASCI).
