With a view to build capacity of extension, development or research personnel of different countries, the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology organized an international training programme on “Extension Management Techniques for Up-scaling Technology Dissemination in Fisheries” from 9TH - 22ND November, 2018.
The main aim of the programme was to make the personnel aware about the latest technological advancements that are being used in the field of harvesting and post-harvesting in fisheries blended with the innovative extension approaches, extension management techniques for effective technologies dissemination to the end users.
The fourteen day-long international training programme registered the participation by Twenty senior government officials from fourteen developing countries namely Algeria, Guatemala, Mauritius, Oman, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Afghanistan and Bangladesh spreading over, Asia, Africa and North America.
The valedictory function held on 22ND November - 2018 marked the gracious presence of Chairman, Marine Product Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Shri K. S. Srinivas (I.A.S.) as the Chief Guest.
Shri Srinivas applauded the significant achievements made by ICAR-CIFT in harvesting and post-harvesting sector and urged the participants to utilize the skills and knowledge gained with the help of programme to develop fishery sector in their countries. Highly impressed by the research accomplishments of ICAR-CIFTI, he expressed his concerns and desire for working in convergence with ICAR-CIFT for boosting up the country’s fishery exports.
Appreciating the over-whelming response from the overseas participants, Dr. C.N. Ravishankar, Director, ICAR-CIFT highlighted the notable research achievements of the institute including NABL accredited laboratory facilities and FSSAI Reference Labs that can lead the blue economy growth in the country.
During the programme, Shri Dinkar Asthana (IFS), Additional Secretary, ITEC, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India also had an interaction session through video conferencing and got the feedbacks with regard to the programme.
The Chief Guest also launched “CIFTFISHPRO”, a web-based interactive system developed by ICAR-CIFT on CIFT value added fish products that provide information on series of values added fish products and it is accessible through http://ciftfishpro.cift.res.in/.
