ICAR-Research Complex for North Eastern Hills Region, Umiam, Meghalaya organized one day training-cum-awareness programme on Rabi maize on 27TH November 2018 under the Project ‘‘Promoting the improved maize production technology in NEH Region’’.
The main objective of the programme was to create awareness among the farmers about the importance of maize in the region.
Dr. R.G. Laha, Director (I/C) ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya while interacting with the farmers mentioned about the maize cultivation as a central point in piggery and poultry rearing in NEH region. He also made the farmers aware about the fact that commercial and profitable pig and poultry farming is next to impossible in the region without the cultivation of own maize crop in farming system mode.
For the technological backstopping of maize cultivation in Meghalaya, the farmers were also distributed with the critical crop production inputs like seeds, neem cake and bio-pesticides, etc.
The programme was attended by nearly 150 farmers belonging to different villages namely Kyrdem, Umroi Madan, Nongrah, Umroi iew, Sliwlar, Labansaro of Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya.
