ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Research Centre, Ooty organized Department of Science and Technology (DST) sponsored National level training program on “Advances in Integrated Watershed Management for Rural Livelihood” during 12-23 November 2018 at Udhagamandalam, Ooty.
The training program aimed to acquaint the participants about the latest tools, techniques, and models for effective integrated management of watersheds for overall improvement in Rural Livelihood Security.
Dr. Srinivas R Reddy, IFS, Managing Director, TANTEA, the Chief Guest of the valedictory function, said most of the watershed programmes end up with the construction of water harvesting structures. He emphasized the need for managing those structures in a cost-effective way.
Dr. P. K. Mishra, Consultant, IDC, ICRISAT, Hyderabad and former Director, ICAR-IIS&WC was the Guest of Honour. He said India is a pioneering country in watershed development. Dr Mishra emphasised that importance should be given to watershed work in forest areas and on participatory approach in integrated watershed development.
Dr. O.PS. Khola, Head, ICAR-IISWC. RC, Ooty urged the participants to interact with experts from various disciplines and implement the same for effective natural resource management.
