Shri Sanjay Garg, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Secretary (ICAR) visited the ICAR-Directorate of Groundnut Research, Junagadh, Gujarat today.
Shri Garg stated about the Oilseeds scenario in the country and the importance of the Oilseeds sector in the current situation, especially, Groundnut. The importance of the extension activities to disseminate the new technologies, varieties, processes and products, etc., to the farmers in the Villages was stressed by Shri Garg. He urged the Research Institutes for working closely with the Line Departments and State Agricultural Functionaries for the better outreach following the understanding of the local issues. Shri Garg underlined the country’s mission for achieving the self-sufficiency in the edible oil production and the steps to be taken for an important Oilseed crop like groundnut in achieving the goal.
Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr. C.S. Praharaj, Director, ICAR-DGR, Junagadh briefed about the Institute’s strengths and the various challenges faced by the Directorate.
