The ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa and the ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa organized a Special Lecture on “Organ and Tissue Donation - Awareness, Education and Information Bridging the Gap” here today. The Lecture was organized in collaboration with the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), Goa.

Special Lecture on “Organ and Tissue Donation”

Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa shared his experiences and close association with his blind students. Being himself a pledged organ donor, he said that, decision to donate organs is a life-saving one, helping people in dire need of transplants. He further requested the staff of the Institute to donate organs for the noble cause.

Dr. Preeti Varghese, Joint Director, SOTTO, Goa highlighted the importance of organ transplant, especially, the vital organs like Kidney, Heart, Lungs and Liver. She also stressed that every Year, nearly 5 Lakh Indians die due to unavailability of the organs. So, the organ donation is an honorable deed and requested everyone to pledge their organs and tissues to save lives.

Smt. Shraddha Kelkar, Consultant IEC, SOTTO, Goa also deliberated during the occasion.

The Lecture organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence registered participation by around 40 participants.
