ICAR-NOFRI trains Maharashtra Officials on Organic Farming Technologies

The ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute, Tadong organized the five-day Inter-State Training on “Organic Farming Technologies, Best Practices and Marketing” from 17 - 21 June, 2019.

The training programme was organized in collaboration with Vasantrao Naik Agriculture Extension Management Training Institute (VANAMATI), Nagpur, Maharashtra for the Faculties of VANAMATI, RAMETI and Officials of Department of Agriculture, Government of Maharashtra.

Shri Ravindra Thakare, IAS and Director, VANAMATI stated that about the Maharashtra team’s willingness to learn the organic farming technologies. The team members were willing for formulating the organic farming policies for Government of Maharashtra for systematically extending the area under organic farming.

In his address, Shri Ravindra Bhosale, Joint Director (Agriculture), Government of Maharashtra stated that even after being a great difference in the agro-ecological conditions of Sikkim and Maharashtra, the determination to go with organic farming is a common factor. Shri Bhosale urged for converting the barren lands into the organic farms.

Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI outlined the training programmes’ relevance to promote the organic farming systems. He stated that the organic farming is a big challenge and urged for working hard for sustaining the production and productivity. Dr. Avasthe also distributed the various “Extension Folders on Organic Production Technologies” and certificates to the trainees.

During the training programme, all the members also visited the ICAR-NOFRI Research Farm. The members were briefed about the ongoing research and development activities.

A team of 26 officers visited ICAR-NOFRI to get equipped with Organic Farming technologies.
