Training on “Sustainable Livelihood Development through Brackishwater Aquaculture and Allied Technologies for the Tribal Farmers of Gujarat State”

The Navsari Gujarat Research Centre of ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai conducted a three-day Training Programme on “Brackishwater Aquaculture and Allied Technologies for Alternative Livelihoods for Tribal Farmers” at Matwad village, Navsari District, Gujarat from 26th to 28th June, 2019. The programme was organized as a part of the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) Programme.

The farmer-friendly extension booklets on Mud crab culture, Seabass nursery rearing and Indian white shrimp farming were released and distributed to the participants on the occasion in order to enhance their knowledge about the brackishwater aquaculture technologies.

In addition to the fish farming, the Tribal Self Help Groups were also distributed the Surti goats for income generation and livelihood security.

The trainees were exposed to mud crab polyculture, nursery rearing of seabass, milkfish culture, health issues in brackishwater aquaculture, value-added products from fish and shrimp, benefits of CIBA-Planktonplus and basics of goat farming etc.

A batch of 76 participants (48 women and 28 men) from tribal communities of Navsari District (Matwad and adjacent villages) attended the Training-Cum-Exposure visit.
