“Mindset Change is the basic strategy for women empowerment in the country”, said Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) in his Valedictory address of the ten-days ICAR-sponsored Short Course on “Gender Gaps and Interventions to Address Gender Issues in Agriculture” at Bhubaneswar today. The Course was organized by the ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar from 17th to 26th September, 2019.
Dr. Mohapatra emphasized on the ways by which the gender equality and equity can be addressed and mitigated at the family and community level by creating the awareness among the various stakeholders. The Director General stressed on the fundamental change instead of cosmic change in order to achieve the target women empowerment in the society. He also expressed his concerns on ensuring the nutritional and livelihood security of the farm women.
Earlier, Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar delivered the welcome address of the Valedictory Function.
Dr. Lipi Das, Course Director briefed about the insight on the various lectures, classes, exercises and field visits conducted during the short course.
Earlier, Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Director, ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack inaugurated the programme on 17th September, 2019. Dr. Pathak accentuated on the need of women empowerment, especially, in the field of agriculture as major challenges, such as, male migration and climate change remains prominent in near future.
The programme was aimed to reduce the gender gaps and identification and address the various technical interventions for women farmers.
A total of 25 participants including the Senior Teaching Faculties and Scientists from ICAR Institutes from 11 different States participated in the programme.
