The 21 day-long Winter School on “Livestock Production and Climate Change: Impact, Adaptation and Mitigation” organized at the ICAR-National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Bengaluru concluded today. The training programme was organized from 24th September to 14th October, 2019.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Suresh S. Honnappagol, Former Commissioner, Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India appreciated the Institute’s efforts in addressing the burning issue of climate change. He urged for the field-based implementation of established mitigation approaches. Dr. Honnappagol applauded the idea of anti-methanogenic compound feed.
Dr. Raghavendra Bhatta, Director, ICAR-NIANP stressed upon the need for precise estimation of methane emission from the Indian livestock and developing the region and season-specific mitigation strategies. He also urged that a policy decision may be taken for including the plant-based anti-methanogenic component in all the compound feed manufactured in the country.
Around 38 theory lectures on various aspects, such as, stress, methane emission, impact of climate change on male and female reproduction, feed quality and biomass yield, emerging feed resources, etc., were delivered during the occasion.
A total of 21 participants including 8 female participants from 7 states participated in the training programme.
