Short Course on “Conservation Agriculture for Climate Resilient Farming & Doubling Farmers’ Income”

icarpatana-01The ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna has organized the 10 day-long ICAR-Short Course on “Conservation Agriculture for Climate Resilient Farming & Doubling Farmers Income”.

The Chief Guest, Dr. R.C. Agrawal, DDG (Education), ICAR, New Delhi & Registrar General, PPV&FRA inaugurated the programme today. Dr. Agrawal emphasized on the importance of resource conservation as well as conservation of genetic resources for the development of stress tolerant crop varieties. He stressed on the need to sensitize the scientists and students about the rules, regulations, acts and laws related to plant variety/germplasm protection and biodiversity conservation.

Dr. Agrawal also shared his experiences of working in PPV& FRA related to the conservation of genetic stock/materials/cultivars. He urged the participants for keeping the records of costs and benefits from CA in order to help the farmers select the most remunerative practices.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. S.S. Singh, Director, Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata shared his experience on CA under the Eastern IGP. He regarded the CA technologies as important in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change on agriculture.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. V.K. Singh, Head, Division of Agronomy, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi stressed on the need TO develop the proper protocols of CA technologies for THE various ecologies and cropping systems.

Dr. B.P. Bhatt, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna highlighted about the Institute’s involvement in the development, refinement and popularization of the RCTs for climate resilience and increasing farmers’ income in the Eastern IGP since its inception.

The training programme registered a total participation by 17 participants from the various states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
