Shri P.B. Ramamurthy, I.A.S., Former Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka inaugurated the ICAR sponsored Winter School on “Conservation and Improvement of Indigenous Bovine Genetic Resources through Integrated Omic Approaches and Optimal Resource Utilization” today.

The event will be organized at the Southern Regional Station, ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Bengaluru from 6th to 26th November, 2019.
Shri Ramamurthy highlighted the importance of conservation and genetic improvement of the indigenous cattle. He also released the E-compendium of the Winter School.
The Guest of Honor, Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Honnappagol, Former Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Government of India, Bengaluru highlighted about the various programmes and schemes initiated by the Government of India. He emphasized on the need for convergence of various technologies for the enhancement in the performance of indigenous bovines and livelihood security of the dairy farmers.
Dr. K.P. Ramesha, Head, Southern Regional Station, ICAR-NDRI, Bengaluru presided over the function. Dr. Ramesha outlined about many unique characteristics that the indigenous genetic resource possess. He stressed on increase in productivity of indigenous germplasm using the modern scientific tools as the need of the hour.
A total of 15 Scientists, Assistant Professors and Subject Matter Specialists from the ICAR Institute, State Agricultural Universities and Veterinary Colleges from across the country are participating in the event.
