Shri Mohanbhai Kalyanjibhai Kundariya, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare visited ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack today and chaired the Review Meeting on BGREI (Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India).
Shri Kundariya urged the farmers and farm women to avail the government schemes particularly, Pradhanmantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, e-mandi for procurement of produces, Phasal Bima Yojana and soil health cards for sustainable agriculture and livelihood. During interaction, he addressed some major issues raised by the farmers and farmwomen concerning availability of quality seeds, ensuring irrigation in rabi season and incentives for rural youths to attract them towards farming and related enterprises.
Minister distributed paddy seed minikits of recently released rice varieties of NRRI and LCC charts to participating farmers and farmwomen. Later, the minister visited the Rice-fish farming system models, Gene bank and Oryza Museum of the institute.
Earlier, Dr. A.K. Nayak Director, ICAR-NRRI welcomed the Minister and presented the research activities of the institute as well as the major achievements under BGREI as the nodal institute.
Scientists, Senior officials of State Government, Farmers and Farmwomen participated in the meeting.
