ICAR-KVK East Sikkim, Ranipool organized a Farmer Scientist Interaction and Technological Backstopping of Tribal Farmers of Sikkim (IFS-TSP) at Thanka, Martam today in order to enhance the livelihood security in the state.
Dr. R. K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR - NOFRI emphasised on the importance of “Swacchh Bharat Abhiyan” and their linkage with production of quality organic nutrient through proper waste management. He encouraged the farmers to undertake production of quality seed and retain them for next two to three years to become self-reliant in organic seeds and motivated the farmers to develop agri-preneurial ability towards the organic seed production to uplift their livelihood as well as self sufficiency in seed since there is huge demand of organic seeds in the state.
Mr. Sonam Tshering Bhutia, Farmers’ representative of Thanka village ensured more and better cooperation on behalf of the farmers towards the organization in carrying out other agricultural activities for the welfare of the farming community.
A total of 26 farm women and rural youth participated in the programme. Seeds of vegetable pea, cole crops, carrot, radish, spinach and coriander along with biopesticides were distributed in the programme.
