Farmers’ day-cum-Exhibition (24-25th November 2016) was inaugurated at ICAR-IISWC, Research Centre, Sunabeda, Koraput, Odisha today.
Prof. Sachithananda Mohanty, Vice-chancellor, Central University of Odisha, Koraput in his address as a Chief Guest stressed upon the importance and role of farming community in meeting the food security of the country. He also stressed that the various programmes and schemes must reach to the unreached farming community in order to achieve the desired developmental goal.
Shri Prafulla Kumar Pangi, MLA, Pottangi, Koraput emphasized the need for creating awareness among the tribal farming community about the available and doable technologies to enhance the livelihood security of the farming community. He appreciated introduction of gundri (Japanees quills) among the SHGs by the Research Centre to increase the income within a short span of time.
Dr P.K.Mishra, Director, ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun, in his presidential address, highlighted the activity of the Research Centre and integration of various departments for the overall development of the community.
Farmers’ representative Shri Pithambaram, Sarpanch urged the farming community to adopt the available local cost effective technologies in conserving soil and rainwater to increase the productivity. He also appreciated the work take-up under TSP by the Research Centre in his panchayat villages.
In exhibition by various development agencies was put up for the benefits of the farming community.
Smt Malati Mahaji, President, ZP, Koraput in her address during valedictory function appreciated the effort of the Research Centre and other developmental agencies for organizing this kind of event for the benefits of the farming community. She also awarded 25 farmers for their achievements in different sectors of agriculture including resource conservation measures
Scientists- Departments-Farmers interaction meeting was held on this occassion.
About 400 farmers participated in the two days mega event.
