Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) visited Regional Research Centres of ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute and ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture here today..
Dr. Mohapatra, while addressing the scientists and staff of the Research Centers, emphasised to address regional issues with greater vigour and scientifically sound strategy for fisheries development in the southern states may be developed. He appreciated the recent work of the Centers on fish parasites, Fish Acoustics, Electronic data acquisition systems and fish larval feed development. DG also highlighted critical role of ICAR Institutes in conservation, propagation and induction of the many endemic fish species in the region.
He later visited the laboratories of the Centres and CIFA fish farm.
Dr. J. K. Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science) highlighted the rich biodiversity in the southern region and its conservation and propagation efforts being made at the Centres.
Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI t gave a brief overview of the major activities of the Centre.
Dr. J. K. Sundaray, Director, ICAR-CIFA spoke about the need information on fish species, culture status and regional uniqueness so that a can be planned for Karnataka
