Awareness Programme on “PGR for Climate Resilient Agriculture & Nutritional Security” organized

The ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi organized an Awareness Programme on “PGR for Climate-Resilient Agriculture & Nutritional Security” for the local farmers under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan at the ICAR-NBPGR Experimental Farm, Issapur, New Delhi today.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) emphasized on organizing the Awareness Programmes regularly to apprise the farmers about the recent technologies and Government Schemes for the betterment of the farming community. While inaugurating the “Field Genebank of Multipurpose Tree Species including Minor Fruits and Perennial Economic Species of Semi-arid Region”, the Director General urged for making the roadmap of collecting and establishing the prioritized tree species in the newly established Field Genebank. Dr. Mohapatra also launched the Chip-based Technology for the Monitoring of Tree Germplasm - a Pilot Project that has been developed in collaboration with the ICAR-ICRAF, Barrackpore, Kolkata and ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru & ICAR-CAFRI, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh during the occasion.

Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR and Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR were present as the Guests of Honor along with Dr. D.K. Yadava, ADG (Seeds), ICAR as the Special Invitee of the occasion.

Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Director, ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi underlined the main objective of the programme.

Around 100 Scheduled Caste Farmers Beneficiaries identified with the help of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ujawa, Delhi were distributed the Small Farm Implements, Vermi-compost Kit and 1 Seed Packet of Kitchen Garden during the occasion.

About 100 Farmers attended the programme.
