Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare visited ICAR – National Research Centre on Pig, Rani, Guwahati today. He appreciated the efforts of the Institute in developing farmer friendly technologies. Minister urged the scientists to actively participate in the programs launched by the Prime Minister of India, especially in issuing soil health cards to farmers and Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY) to increase agricultural production of the country and promote farmers’ welfare. He said that the technologies developed in laboratories must reach farmers and every effort should be taken to ensure that the technologies are useful to farmers. While appreciating the technologies developed by the Centre for value addition of pork, he suggested to establish a pork and pork products sale counter for easy accessibility and to bring more visibility about the technologies of the ICAR-NRC on Pig.
Minister was accompanied by Smt. Bijoya Chakravarty, Honourable Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Chairperson, Committee on Empowerment of Women and Mr. Pankaj Kumar Pathak, Member, Institute Management Committee, ICAR - NRC on Pig .
Earlier, Dr D. K. Sarma, Director, ICAR–NRC on Pig welcomed the Union Minister and presented the major achievements of the Research Centre in promoting scientific pig husbandry.
Scientists and staff of the ICAR-NRC n Pig and local ICAR Institutes, Research Stations, ICARRC-NRH, Umiam and KVKs participated in the meeting.
