The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata organized an Innovative four-day Training Programme on “Contract Farming and Linkages of Farmers in Farmer Producer Organizations / Farmer Producer Companies to Market” from 28th November to 1st December, 2019.
The Chief Guest, Shri Subrata Mandal, Chief General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Kolkata had an inclusive interaction with the trainees on improving their efforts in effective marketing of their produce. He also sensitized them about the contract farming and establishing the active linkage with ICAR-CIFRI and NABARD for the holistic development of the culture-based fisheries management system in their FPOs and FPCs.
Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI was the Course Director of the programme.
The programme was sponsored by the Chaudhary Charan Singh - National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (CCS - NIAM), Jaipur.
The main objective of the programme was to integrate the fishers with bulk purchasers including exporters, industries in fisheries and allied sectors, traders and entrepreneurs for better price realization through mitigation of market and price risk.
The Training Programme was organized for 39 trainees (36 men and 3 women), the members of various FPOs / FPCs involved in the different capacities in culture-based fisheries activities in the inland open waters along with the integrated farming systems in the Districts of Nadia, Purba Medinipur, Burdwan and Murshidabad of West Bengal.
