Dr. K. D. Kokate, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR visited Zonal Project Directorate, ATIC Division and KVK Ri Bhoi of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Barapani on 20th July, 2011. During his visit, he suggested the KVK to implement various interdisciplinary programmes for technology assessment and refinement, which will prove beneficial to the district. He stressed that it is high time for farmers’ participation in technology refinement and assessment.
He emphasized that KVK should take up entrepreneurial activities for the women SHGs for better economic empowerment. While assessing the production of Ginger (var. Nadia) from Frontline Demonstration conducted, he advised to go for quality planting material for sustainable production and productivity of ginger in the district. He emphasized on adoption of Agro-forestry model developed by the institute which includes medicinal plant to be replicated in adopted villages. He appreciated the efforts for collecting, documenting and characterization of local germplasms collected by the institute which is useful for future research.
Dr Kokate was accompanied by Dr. A.K.Gogoi, Zonal Project Director, Zone III. He interacted with scientists of the KVK and members of the SHG besides farmers.
