24 th January,  Solan

Dr. Charan Das Mahant, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Govt. of India visited Directorate of Mushroom Research (DMR), Chambaghat, Solan, Himachal Pradesh today. He took keen interest in different laboratories, cropping rooms, composting yard, library and museum and addressed the staff and other participants.

He emphasized that mushrooms are very good tool for conversion of agricultural waste into protein-rich food.  This activity is very remunerative for unemployed youths and women wherein they can earn handsome profit by utilizing lesser space and money, and hence, more and more people are coming into this profession.  He appreciated the scientists of DMR for their pioneering research and contributions.  He felt the need to upgrade this Directorate into Institute in the XII Plan which will ensure more manpower and funds.  Four-five Regional Stations in different parts of the country are also required to cater the needs of different mushrooms and also to propagate mushroom cultivation in all parts of the country, he added.
