The 2-week DST funded National Virtual Training Programme on “Advances in Integrated Watershed Management for Rural Livelihood” organized by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Research Centre, Udhagamandalam, Tamil Nadu concluded today.
The Chief Guest of the valedictory ceremony, Dr. K. Alagusundaram, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Engineering), ICAR emphasized on the need to harvest the rainwater, especially, during the extreme weather events and flooding by constructing technologically sound water harvesting structures.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. A. Arunachalam, Director, ICAR-Central Agroforestry Research Institute, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh stressed on the need to explore the solutions for soil and water management and biodiversity conservation. He also emphasized on the importance of constructing water harvesting structures for overall development of the nation.
Dr. K. Kannan, Head, ICAR-0IISWC, Research Centre, Udhagamandalam and Course Co-Director briefed the participants about the significance of the programme to improve the farmers’ livelihood security.
Dr. R.S. Yadav, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun, Uttarakhand highlighted the importance of watershed based approach to solve multiple agricultural problems and restore the Ecology and Environment.
Around 58 Group “A” Officers from R & D, Teaching and Extension Departments from the Central and State Government Organizations from 15 states across the country virtually participated in the programme.
About 30 subject experts delivered lectures on latest tools, techniques and models for effective integrated management of watersheds for the overall improvement in the rural livelihood security.
