Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) visited the Agroforestry Fields Trials under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Agroforestry being implemented by the Forest College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Mettupalayam today.
On his visit to the Asia’s First Agroforestry Business Incubator, the Director General was apprised about the facilities created and the various business opportunities in Agroforestry and Forestry. Dr. Mohapatra applauded the efforts taken on the Research and Development Fronts by the Centre. He also urged for continuing the R&D activities and bringing out publications in the International Journals with high Impact Factor.
Dr. P. Rajendran, Officer In-charge, AICRP on Agroforestry and Dr. K. Ramah, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), AICRP on Agroforestry underlined the various Agroforestry models developed by the Centre including the Multifunctional Agroforestry Model for the small and marginal farmers, Tree Fodder Bank Model, Silvimediculture Model, Acacia leucocephala based traditional Silvipasture Model, Malabar Neem and Eucalyptus based Silvi-horticultural Models and Casuarina MTP 2 based Windbreak Model.
The Centre has identified 30 tree species for promoting the Agroforestry in the state.
