Chief Minister of Kerala Assured Assistance to Women Farmers

Shri Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala addressing farmers and entrepreneurs at CPCRI, KasaragodShri Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala visited Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasaragod on 18th April 2013.   Shri Chandy delivered the valedictory address in the training programme on ‘Enterprise diversification in coconut sector’.  For improving the coconut sector, State Government will take all measures to support coconut farmers as well as coconut based enterprises, he said. During the interaction with the farmers, the Chief Minister responded that State Government has submitted proposals for linking MGNREGA with agriculture especially the dairy sector.   The possible assistance will be provided to women who were trained in coconut climbing for enhancing their job efficiency, he added. More than hundred farmers and entrepreneurs and the staff of CPCRI participated in the programme.

Shri Chandy visited different laboratories and field experiments, mainly the experiment on neera collection and the Agro-Processing Complex and appreciated the outcomes of research from CPCRI. Chief Minister also released a publication on coconut varieties published by CPCRI. Dr. George V. Thomas, Director, CPCRI welcomed the dignitary and gathering.
