The ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins & Gums, Ranchi, Jharkhand organized a Workshop on “Lac Integrated Cropping System, Value-addition & Bankable Model for 30 Deputy District Managers (DDMs) and Officials of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD)” today.
Shri S.K. Nanda, General Manager, NABARD urged for giving priority to the high value crops like lac to promote the Rural Entrepreneurship and enhance the farmers’ income.
Dr. K.K. Sharma, Director, ICAR-IINRG, Ranchi emphasized that the Lac is “low volume high value” crop and its cultivation is a good source of income to the farmers. He stated that the Model of Tribal Development encompassed natural resource management in the Rainfed Tribal Areas, micro-finance initiatives and women empowerment through people’s participation.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Nirmal Kumar, Head, Production & Extension Management Division, ICAR-IINRG, Ranchi highlighted the research achievements, activities and various programmes of the Institute for the welfare of Lac farmers and women empowerment through the Lac based enterprises.
The DDMs were provided with a visit around the Institute’s Research Farm and the Museum to get an overview of the production, processing and value-addition aspects of Lac with the special emphasis on its major application areas.
