Shri J.N. Swain, I.A.S., Secretary, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India visited the ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai today. During his visit, the Secretary interacted with the Scientists of ICAR-CIBA at the Coastal Aquaculture Authority, Chennai.
Shri Swain urged the Institute for focusing on the research work of including the seaweeds in shrimp and fish feeds for enabling the seaweed farmers to get a continuous market demand and also ensure remunerative prices.
Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai apprised Shri Swain about the progress of the major works currently undertaken by the Institute. The disease surveillance programme and the importance of Jump Start Programme on Genetic Improvement of Indian Shrimp (Penaeus indicus) to facilitate shrimp farmers with indigenously produced quality shrimp seed for supporting the Indian Shrimp Culture was also underlined by Dr. Jithendran.
