Showcasing of Agricultural Technologies Inaugurated at VPKAS, Almora

Padamshri Dr. Lalit Pandey, Director, Uttarakhand Seva Nidhi Paryavaran Shiksha Sansthan, inaugurated ‘Showcasing of Agricultural technologies’ at Vivekanada Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Santhan (VKPAS) experimental farm, Hawalbagh, Almora today. In his address, Dr. Pandey appreciated the role of VKPAS in the development of location specific new technologies for hill agriculture. He also stressed upon the need to disseminate improved technologies according to the social needs of farmers as agriculture in this region is diversified. Newly developed barley variety VL Jau 118 was also released for cultivation by the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Shri S.K. Joshi, Business Manager, DKMA, ICAR highlighted the role of NAIP in innovation and dissemination of agricultural technologies to different stakeholders and farmers to enhance the productivity, profitability and sustainability in agriculture. He said that such exhibitions provide an opportunity for farmers to have direct interface with scientists and technology developers.

Earlier, Dr. J.C. Bhatt, Director, VPKAS welcomed the dignitaries and participants and emphasized upon the role of technological interventions in hill agriculture for maintaining livelihood security of the hill farmers. He also appreciated DKMA for holding this event in Almora for upliftment of hill agriculture. Dr. Bhatt also informed the gathering about the different activities undertaken by the VPKAS.

This two-day (25-26 September, 2013) programme is being organized under the NAIP project ‘Mobilizing Mass Media Support for Sharing Agro Information’ in which DKMA is consortium leader. The showcasing event is displaying new and improved agricultural technologies and value added products developed by different ICAR Institutes (IARI, IVRI, DCFR, FMD, CITH, NBPGR, KVKs and VPKAS), government and non-government organizations. DKMA is displaying agricultural literature useful for different stakeholders.
