Workshop on “Importance of Handloom in the Society and Economy” organized

The ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata organized a Workshop on “Importance of Handloom in Our Society and Economy-cum-Exhibition of Handloom Products” at Kolkata on the occasion of National Handloom Day today.

In his address, the Chief Guest, Dr. S.A. Wani, Director (Research), Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Jammu & Kashmir emphasized on the importance of hand spinning and handloom weaving of Pashmina Shawls.

In his address Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata outlined the role of handloom in the country’s social development. He also urged to draw a roadmap for the development in the sector.

Leaflet on Handloom Fabric and Products was released during the occasion.

The main objective of the Workshop was to support and encourage the handloom weavers / workers and to provide impetus to the handloom industry.

Around 25 weavers from the different organizations like Fulia Women & Youth Welfare Society, Nadia; Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Sargachi, Murshidabad and Laxmi Ganesh Textiles, Nadia participated in the Workshop.
