The Deemed University of Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly organized its VIIIth convocation on 12th November, 2013 at Izatnagar.
In his convocation address as Chief Guest, Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), emphasized that a proper health cover is required to produce healthy and acceptable products like milk, meat and eggs which meet international standards and also efforts are needed to control newly emerging diseases of economic importance in India. He appreciated the efforts and contribution of IVRI in the area of livestock health through development of rapid and reliable diagnostics and effective vaccines against important bacterial, viral and parasitic diseases of livestock, which helped the nation in successful control of many of many important livestock diseases and eradication of rinderpest .
He announced the establishment of Technology Transfer and Training Centre of IVRI at Pune, the birth place of this Institute. He declared an additional grant of Rs. 15 crore for establishment of National Veterinary Museum and modernization of existing facilities of IVRI.
Dr. Ayyappan conferred 223 Ph.D. and 476 M.V.Sc. degrees, Best Teacher Awards (12), Best Student Awards (12), Dr. C.M. Singh Award and Dr. S.K. Talpatra Award on the students and scientists. He also released four publications on the occasion. Earlier, he unveiled the centenary pillar of IVRI, Izatnagar campus and inaugurated the Bio-Safety Laboratory Level-3.
Prof. Gaya Prasad, Director, IVRI and ADG (AH) welcomed the dignitaries and guests. He provided a vivid account of the accomplishments in various mandated areas of the institute and informed that the research in the frontier areas like stem cells, nanotechnology, pharmacokinetics, nutrigenomics etc. will be gainfully utilized for strengthening research efficiency.
Dr. V.P. Singh, Joint Director (Academic) presented a comprehensive report on IVRI Deemed University activities.
Shri Praveen Singh Aron, MP, Bareilly; Prof. K.M.L. Pathak, DDG (AS); Dr. Arvind Kumar, DDG (Education); directors of various ICAR Institutes also graced the occasion.
IVRI is a premier research organization in veterinary and animal sciences with a history of 124 years. It has a played a pivotal role in the development of livestock sector, education and services in India.
