ICAR-RCER Research Centre for Makhana, Darbhanga launched the ‘Makhana Popping Machine’ on 3rd December, 2013. This machine has been developed by the Central Institute for Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana and manufactured by M/s Jwala Engineering and Consultancy Services, Ambala.
On the occasion, machine was tested and demonstrated among 200 farmers and makhana traders of Darbhanga and Rahika Block of Madhubani Districts. It has been found that the machine performs excellently and gives popping efficiency more than 90 percent. Quality of popped makhana is also found much better than prepared from traditional method.
