Awareness-cum-training programme on ‘Application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)’ was inaugurated at NRC for Orchids, Pakyong, Sikkim on 19th December, 2013.
Dr. P. Srivastava, Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering & Post Harvest Technology, Central Agricultural University, Ranipool, Sikkim inaugurated the programme as Chief Guest. In his address, he hoped that North-East India can be the biggest supplier of organic products to the world and ICT will a play a major role in this achievement.
Shri Birendra Chettri, State Informatics Officer, National Informatics Centre, Sikkim Centre, Gangtok was the Guest of Honour for the programme. He informed that the Government of India has taken some major initiatives for e-governance. He also presented a lecture on ICT – Overview & Applications to the participants.
Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Sikkim Centre, Tadong, Gangtok was also present on the occasion as special invitee. He discussed the significance of ICT in achieving the food security for the country and congratulated the NRC for Orchids for organizing such event.
Earlier, Dr. R.P. Medhi, Director, NRC for Orchids welcomed the dignitaries and participants. In his welcome address, he emphasized upon the needs of ICT particularly in the field of agriculture and its role for gaining momentum in agricultural productivity and sustainable development.
Scientists, administrative and technical personnel of different institutes are participating in the training programme.
Dr. N. Sailo, Scientist (Plant Physiology) and In-Charge, AKMU, NRC for Orchids, Sikkim proposed the vote of thanks.
