Training on Fruit Nursery Raising Organized at Lembucherra

ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre, Lembucherra organized a training programme on improved techniques of fruit nursery raising and management on 6-12th February, 2014.

Shri Hari Charan Sarkar, MLA, Bamutia constituency inaugurated the programme on 6th February, 2014. In his address, Shri Sarkar emphasized upon the scope of fruit nursery raising for entrepreneurship generation in the state.

Dr. M. Datta, Joint Director, ICAR Tripura Centre welcomed dignitaries and trainees and elaborated the significance of the training for supply of quality planting material of different fruit crops. Dr. Biswajit Das, Principal Scientist (Horticulture) and organizer along with Mr. R.S. Maitry, Scientist and Co-organizer imparted hands on training on different techniques of fruit nursery raising and management for production of quality planting material.

Shri P.B. Jamatia Joint Director and Mr. Soumitra Das, Senior Horticulturist, Directorate of Horticulture, Government of Tripura and Mrs. Hemavati R., Scientist, ICAR Tripura Centre also delivered lectures during the programme.

Dr. Prafullajit Sinha, Mayor, Agartala Municipal Corporation was the Chief Guest of valedictory function on 12th February, 2014. Dr. Sinha advised the trainees to follow the techniques and protocols for propagation of superior varieties of different fruit crops.

Dr. R.C. Samui, Principal, College of agriculture; Shri P.B. Jamatia; Mr. D. Borgohain State Coordinator, NERAMAC and Mr. Debasish Endow, Zonal Manager, NERAMAC were also present on the occasion as Guests.

Trainees were demonstrated different techniques of propagation of mango, citrus, guava, litchi, ber, banana, pineapple, jackfruit, coconut, arecanut and other minor fruits grown in Tripura. More than 30 trainees from NERAMAC Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya centres and local nurseries participated in this week long training programme. This training was sponsored by Horticulture Mission for North East & Himalayan States (MM-I).
