First Sensitization Workshop for “GATI” Pilot Project organized

The ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh organized the First Sensitization Workshop for “Gender Advancement for Transforming Institution (GATI)” Pilot Project, a Project of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India today.

The three ICAR Institutes - ICAR-IVRI, Izatnagar; ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana and ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi are implementing the GATI Project.

The Chief Guest, Ms. Neera Sarmah, the Bamboo Lady of India shared her journey from a normal woman to the present level and the struggles gone through. She also emphasized on “One Bamboo, One Lakh Mission” which helped the unemployed women to come into the frontline earners of the family.

In his address, Dr. Triveni Dutt, Director & Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-IVRI, Izatnagar underlined a general perspective on the involvement of women in the STEMM disciplines, the leadership roles played by women in the various facets of science and technology, problems faced by working women and the changes required in the current scenario. He stressed on elevating the women’s education rate and ratio within a few Years in line with the New Education Policy.

The GATI Project is aimed at nudging the Institutions of Higher Education and Research towards supporting the diversity, inclusion and the full spectrum of talent for their own success and progression. In particular, it aspires to create an enabling environment for the equal participation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics (STEMM) disciplines at all the levels.

More than 150 Faculties, Scientists, Students and Staff Members of ICAR-IVRI, Izatnagar along with all its Campuses and Regional Stations along with more than 50 School Children and Teachers from Kendriya Vidyalaya, ICAR-IVRI, Izatnagar and Bareilly participated in the Workshop.
