Directorate of Cashew Research (DCR), Puttur celebrated its foundation day on 18th June, 2014.
Prof. R.K. Pathak, Former Director, CISH, Lucknow delivered the foundation day lecture on ‘Jaivik Cashew for Export Promotion and Domestic Consumption’. He exhorted the farmers of this region to make the full use of various organic farming systems and techniques to produce quality food products in an environmentally sustainable and profitable way.
Shri. A.B. Ibrahim, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Dakshina Kannada district was the Chief Guest of the programme. In his address, he stressed upon the need of improvement in cashew cultivation and better income from cashew farming.
Dr. George V. Thomas, Director, CPCRI, Kasaragod was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Dr. Thomas appreciated the technologies of DCRand appreciated that these technologies have benefitted cashew farmers of the region.
Prof. P.L. Saroj, Director, DCR elaborated the present status of cashew research and cashew cultivation in India. He called upon the farmers to follow the right technologies along with the proper recommendations as indicated by the scientists to reap the benefits from cashew cultivation.
Earlier, Dr. M.G. Nayak, Principal Scientist (Horticulture), DCR welcomed the dignitaries and participants.
Three innovative farmers were felicitated by the dignitaries on the occasion. The awardees also shared their experiences. Technical folders on ‘Rejuvenation Techniques in Cashew’ and ‘Geru Maragala Punaschethana Tantrikathe’ (Kannada) were also released.
On this occasion ‘Farmers Meet – 2014’ was also organized. More than 150 cashew farmers participated in the meet.
