To commemorate the splendid journey of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in scaling the new heights in food, horticulture, live stock and fisheries production in the country, Directorate of Seed Research (DSR), Mau (U.P.) celebrated council’s Foundation Day on 16th July, 2014 at the conference hall of the DSR, Mau. Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Project Director presided over the function. Foundation Day celebrations were also attended by a good number of officials from U.P. State Agril. Deptt. and KVK, Mau officials, farmers and students of senior secondary classes. Dr. Rajendra Prasad while highlighting the achievements of ICAR also informed the farmers about the welfare programmes like Seed Village Scheme being run by DSR, Mau and seed processing and seed testing facilities that would be shortly made available to seed farmers of nearby villages. Foundation Day celebrations also provided a platform for “Research-Extension-Farmers Meet” wherein challenges arising from delayed onset of monsoon and expected low rainfall in present crop season were discussed and farmers and seed producers were guided with the contingency plan spanning from suitable alternate crops, short duration varieties, seed availability, and dos and don’ts of alternate crop husbandry strategies. At this occasion to create awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) among students a “Poster Exhibition” was also organized and students were given information on various facets of IPR through lectures also. Students presenting good content on IPR through posters were given awards for encouragement. At this occasion, a leaflet on “Intellectual Property Right- A Tool to Secure Your Research” was also prepared and distributed among students.
