The 86th Foundation Day of ICAR was celebrated at Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh here today. On this occasion, Dr. Shankar Lal, Former Director of IIPR was Chief Guest. He expressed his view on different strategies and policies developed for research and development to achieve self sufficiency in pulse production as well as nutritional security of nation.
Dr. N. P. Singh, Director, IIPR highlighted significant achievements and contribution of ICAR and IIPR in particular. He also informed that due to concerted research efforts, government policies and innovativeness of farmers, we could increase pulse production to more than 19.00 mt in the Country.
Farmers- Scientists interaction was also organized to sensitize farmers to cope up with drought problem emerged during current rainy season. Director emphasized on cultivation of less water requirement crops like urdbean, mungbean, pigeonpea, Til in different farming situations. Technological packages related to suitable variety, management practices, pest and diseases management etc were advocated by institute scientists. More than 100 farmers along with scientific, technical, administrative and supportive staff participate in this important event.
