Shri Jatindra Nath Swain, I.A.S., Secretary (Fisheries), Department of Fisheries, Government of India accompanied by Dr. J Balaji, I.A.S., Joint Secretary (Marine Fisheries), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India visited the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi, Kerala today. Smt. Tinku Biswal, I.A.S., Secretary (Fisheries), Government of Kerala & Smt. Girija, Director (Fisheries), Government of Kerala also marked their presence during the occasion.
The Secretary urged to set a target for the welfare of the fishermen and fish farmers along with developing the technological innovations. He also stressed on disruptive innovations for making the fisheries sector a viable and sustainable source of development. Shri Swain handed-over the ICAR-CIFT Fish Vending Kiosk “ChillFish” to a Kumbalangi based Kudumbasree Unit “Flower” as a part of the CSR Programme of the Cochin Shipyard Limited.
Under the CSR initiative of the Cochin Shipyard Limited, a total of 26 Fish Vending Kiosks have been supplied to the fisherwomen groups across Kerala identified with the help of Society for Assistance to Fisherwomen (SAF), an Agency under the aegis of the Department of Fisheries, Government of Kerala. The 2 Units of “Fish Waste to Fish Feeds Conversion Machineries” were also provided to the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kottayam and Lakshadweep for the community use.
In his address, Dr. C.N. Ravishankar, Director, ICAR-CIFT apprised the dignitaries about the Institute’s contributions in the harvest and post-harvest fisheries and the technological innovations for the growth of the blue economy.
The Senior Officials of the ICAR Institutes and State Government Department were also present during the occasion.
