Training course on ‘Molecular Tools and Bioinformatics Approaches for Livestock Genome Analysis’ organized by CIRC

30thSeptember, 2014

The DBT sponsored short term training course (21 days) on Molecular Tools and Bioinformatics Approaches for Livestock Genome Analysis was organized in the Central Institute for Research on Cattle (CIRC), Meerut from 10th to 30th September, 2014. A total of 20 participants from different parts of the country attended the training. The training was mainly hands on training on various bio informatics tools relevant to livestock genome analysis and covered emerging areas like functional genomics, proteomics, and stem cell technologies besides the advanced topics like next generation sequencing and genome assembly, transcriptome analysis, genome annotation, computational approach for development of DNA signatures and metagenomics. Significance of Intellectual property rights and applications of molecular based approaches in the conservation and genetic improvement of livestock were also addressed. Quality assessment of semen and importance of screening of bulls for genetic diseases and chromosomal abnormalities were also incorporated in the training programme. The basic and advanced statistic tools for data analysis were also integrated in the training programme.
