Epidemiology training organized at NIVEDI in collaboration with CDC

A training programme on Basic Epidemiology was organised by National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (NIVEDI)in collaboration with Indian arm of Centers for Disease Control and Prvention (CDC), USA from 1-5 December, 2014 at Bengaluru.

Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) stressed the need for such training programme and appreciated the efforts of the CDC in capacity building in the area of epidemiology in India.  He urged the participants to adapt the knowledge gained during the training programme in disease investigations and epidemiological studies. 

Dr.  Kayla Laserson, Director, CDC, India, expressed satisfaction over the conduction of training programme and appreciated the enthusiasm of the trainees. 

Earlier in the week, Dr. H. Rahman, Director, NIVEDI, while inaugurating the programme explained the events leading to CDC collaboration and the objectives of the course and one health programmes.

Lectures on various areas of epidemiology such as introduction, descriptive and analytical epidemiology, hypothesis generation and testing, ratios and proportions, surveillance, surveillance types and validation of surveillance, role of disease diagnostic laboratories in surveillance were delivered during the training programme
