ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi celebrates 31st Foundation Day

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh organized a Virtual Meet and Panel Discussion on "Enriching Diet with Nutri-dense Vegetables for Better Health and Wellness" to celebrate its 31st Foundation Day today.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Anand Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General, (Horticultural Science), ICAR emphasized on the ways the Institute can increase nutritional security and enhance farmers’ income through the horticultural crops, especially vegetables. He was addressing the Technical Session on “Panel discussion on Enriching Diet with Nutri-dense Vegetables for Better Health and Wellness”.

In his Foundation Day Lecture, Dr. Mangala Rai, Former Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) urged the Institute to give emphasis on the nutrition enhancement in vegetable crops by applying modern tools in addition to traditional tools and maintaining soil fertility.

Dr. Vikramaditya Pandey, ADG (Horticultural Science), ICAR and Prof. Asna Urooj, Professor, Department of Studies in Food Science & Nutrition, University of Mysore also marked their presence during the occasion.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Tusar Kanti Behera, Director, ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi outlined the various initiatives taken by the Institute for enhancing the farmers’ income and the environmental sustainable farming practices.

The Farmers, Scientists, Technical Staff, Officers and Retired Members of the Institute also participated in the event.
