Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) visited ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi during 08- 09 October 2016.

In an interaction with the staff of the institute, Dr Mohapatra emphasized on developing technologies for nutritional security through vegetables, promoting balcony vegetable farming and exploring the possibilities of exotic vegetable cultivation. He suggested to initiate work on root-stock breeding to develop multiple stress tolerant root-stock for grafted vegetables and also stressed for intensive utilization of wild-species in pre-breeding programme of vegetables.
Dr Mohapatra inaugurated the Technology Park at the ICAR-IIVR and congratulated the Director and his team for developing such park to demonstrate the latest vegetable technologies for the benefit of farmers and other stake holders.
Director General graced the valedictory function of training on “Principles and production techniques of hybrid seed in vegetables” and urged to organize skill development training programme for self-employment of the unemployed youth. He also visited the Experimental farm and laboratories and released three ICAR-IIVR publications.
Dr. Bijendra Singh, Director, ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi briefed about the ongoing activities and achievements of the institute, and its impact on farmers’ field.
