ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad organized an Industry–Institute interface on March 18, 2015.
Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Director briefed about the theme and scope of the interface for various stakeholders to discuss the challenges faced by poultry industry and to explore areas of close collaboration between the institute and industry.
Dr. R. Kalpana Sastry, Joint Director, NAARM, Hyderabad elaborated the recent policies of ICAR on IPR and also briefed about the facility for agribusiness incubators In ICAR.
Dr. T. K. Bhattacharya, National Fellow of the Directorate highlighted the R&D facilities available at the Institute and specified the potential areas of linkages and collaboration with the Industry.
Dr. M. R. Reddy, Officer In-charge, ITMU has briefed about scope for public-private collaboration and ICAR rules and guidelines for professional service functions (training, contract research, consultancy service and contract services).
Dr T. Kotaiah, Managing Director, Indbro Research Farm, Hyderabad elaborated the challenges of poultry industry such as vaccination issues, need of diagnosis services, serology monitoring, availability of raw feed materials, cost of production, price realization, quality standards and policy issues.
Issues such as need for database of raw materials and their nutrient content, availability of raw materials and current export policy of maize and soyabean were discussed during interactions. Collaborative works for disease diagnosis, sero-monitoring, advisory consultancy and also disease surveillance were deliberated and emphasized. In addition, antibiotic residues in poultry meat and egg, skilled manpower for industry and taking up sponsored research projects by post-graduate students were also discussed.
Around 75 participants from the Poultry Industry and institutes attended the event.
