The ICAR- Indian Veterinary Research Institute is organizing the Regional Agriculture Fair for the Northern Zone during 17-20 March, 2015 with the support of Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Govt. of India.
Dr Gurbachan Singh, Chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, inaugurated the fair today at the Izatnagar main campus of the Institute.
Dr Singh emphasized that farmers must be given latest information in easy to understand manner. While lauding the efforts of IVRI directed to farming community, he was also appreciative of the IVRI’s efforts to promote indigenous livestock breeds.
Dr A K Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR spoke about the recent initiatives like Mera Gao Mera Gaurav & Farmer First by ICAR. He stressed that the various government schemes need to be brought to the notice of the farmers through action at the field level, in doing so he highlighted the role of extension machinery available particularly 642 KVKs spread over the country.
Dr R K Singh, Director, IVRI assured the farming community that the institute will make all possible efforts and assist them in improving farm productivity.
Seventeen innovative farmers from states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi were felicitated on the occasion.
Over 15,000 farmers from UP and neighbouring states are expected to visit the Agricultural Fair. The Kisan Goshthis for livestock farmers to have a customized solution of their specific problems, auction of allied animals, crop & livestock competitions, exhibitions of farm implements & agro inputs have been organized by various companies, ICAR institutes, SAUs, line departments & NGOsduring the Fair
