The ten-day Skill Development Training Programme on “Eco-Friendly Bag Making” organized by the ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad from 7th to 18th February, 2022 concluded today. The programme was organized under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan in collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Yagantipalle, Andhra Pradesh for the Scheduled Caste Women.

Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad apprised the participants about the harmful effects of plastic usage and environmental pollution. The importance and necessity of using the eco-friendly bags as a viable alternative to plastic bags was also highlighted by Dr. Rao.
Dr. M. Balakrishnan, Chairman, Sub-Plan Committee, ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad underlined the beneficiaries about the SC Sub Plan Programme and its implementation.
Dr. Dhanalakshmi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Yagantipalle, Andhra Pradesh highlighted the advantages of using the eco-friendly bags over the plastic bags.
The participants were trained on the various aspects of Bag Stitching using the materials like Jute and Cloth along with a Business Plan for starting a Bag-Making Enterprise.
The programme registered participation by a total of 20 Women from two Villages - Yanakandla and Yagantipalle of Bethamcherla Mandal of Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh.
