An interaction meeting of KVKs (Zone V) for discussing the crop planning in Rabi 2015-16 by the KVKs of Zone V was jointly organized by Agricultural Technology Application and Research Institute and ICAR-Central Research Institute of Dryland Agriculture, at Hyderabad.
Dr. N. Sudhakar, Director ATARI said that during Kharif 2015, there has been a decrease in area under cultivation of all major crops in the Zone due to scanty rainfall. In view of such situation it is essential to utilize the late season rainfall received in September to produce more yield during Rabi season through appropriate crop and varietal selection and judicious utilization of water through micro-irrigation, mulching etc.
Dr.Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director ICAR-CRIDA, in his inaugural address said that KVKs of Zone V have to play an important role in informing the farmers about the crop planning and sowing methods based on soil type and following proper management of water, nutrients etc.
Dr. RVSK Reddy, Director Extension education, Dr. YSR Horticulture University Andhra Pradesh, discussed the horticulture crop situation in the state and informed the management practices to be followed for orchard of crops of Mango, Gauva etc .
The directors of extension education of SAUs and Horticulture University or their representatives from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra, representatives of directors of ICAR research institutions based at Hyderabad such as IIRR, IIMR, and NAARM AND Programme Coordinators and Scientists of 70 KVKs of zone V participated in the meeting.
