DG, ICAR visits KVK, Lakshadweep of ICAR-CMFRI

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) visited the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lakshadweep of the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute at Kavaratti here today.

The Director General was accompanied by Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR; Dr. A. Gopalakrishnan, Director, ICAR-CMFRI and Dr. V. Venkatasubramanian, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Bengaluru, Karnataka.

In his address, Dr. Mohapatra regarded the seaweed culture, value-addition and processing of Coconut and Fish as the three important areas for improving the Entrepreneurship in the Islands. Addressing the participants during the Farmers’ Meet, the DG also visited the District Agro Meteorological Unit established by the KVK, Lakshadweep, ICAR-CMFRI at Kavaratti.

Chairing the Interface Meeting between the ICAR and officials of the UT Administration of Lakshadweep, Dr. Mohapatra urged for carrying out the works on promoting the nutri-gardens, soil-less media, water conservation, coconut value-addition and processing along with the expertise of the ICAR Institutes in the region.

Dr. P.N. Ananth, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, ICAR-CMFRI, Lakshadweep highlighted the KVK’s achievements.

More than 60 Progressive Farmers along with the Senior Officials of the UT Administration of Lakshadweep participated in the Farmers’ Meet.
