4 - 6 December, 2019, Tadong, Gangtok
The ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute, Tadong organized the three-day “Training Programme on Organic Farming” for the Team Members of i-Concept Initiatives NGO, Bhubaneswar, Odisha from 4th to 6th December, 2019.
A team of 13 members visited the Institute for getting educated on the Organic Farming technologies.
Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI highlighted the importance of organic farming. He also encouraged the team members of i-Concept Initiatives for adopting the organic farming on large scale. He accentuated that the implementation of organic farming will help to protect the environment and conserve the biodiversity. Dr. Avasthe outlined the concept of physico-chemical and micro-biological properties of soil and soil health management for organic crop production. He also distributed the various “Extension Folders on Organic Production Technologies” and conferred the trainees with the certificates.
Dr. Ashish Yadav, Senior Scientist (Horticulture), ICAR-NOFRI briefed about the various skills development activities undertaken by the Institute. Dr. Yadav discussed about the “Organic Fruit production techniques” and “Organic high value Vegetable production techniques”.
Dr. Yashoda Pradhan, Ex-CEO, Sikkim State Organic Certification Agency, Government of Sikkim outlined about the “Organic Certification and Traceability”. She emphasized on the importance of organic certification for fetching the premium price of the organic produce.
During the training program, all the members also visited the ICAR-NOFRI Research Farm and were briefed about the ongoing research and development activities.
