The eight-day Model Training Course on “Advances in Marketing and Supply Chain Management of Agricultural Produce” organized by the ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna from 10th to 17th December, 2019 concluded today. The programme sponsored by the Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India was organized for the officials of Development Departments from the different states.
The Chief Guest of the Valedictory Function, Dr. Rameshwar Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patna stressed on the need for the cooperatives, FPOs and collective marketing for better price realization to the farmers. He urged for the necessity of market survey for the farmers before the production of any new crops/enterprises. He also outlined the importance of sorting, grading, packing and branding of produces for their better marketing.
Dr. B.P. Bhatt, Director, ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna emphasized on the inter-linking of the production and marketing. He stressed on the limitation of marketing of the seasonal production of fruits and vegetables. He accentuated on round the year supply of the agricultural produces that is necessary for getting the stable prices.
In his welcome address, Dr. Ujjwal Kumar, Course Director of the Training Programme briefed about the main objectives of Model Training Course. He outlined about the organization of 32 sessions during the programme.
Earlier, the Chief Guest, Prof. Hemnath Rao Hanumankar, Senior Professor and Director, Development Management Institute, Patna (Bihar) inaugurated the programme on 10th December, 2019. Professor Rao accentuated on the linkage of agricultural production and marketing with the concept of management through the use of techno-managerial approach. He also deliberated about the importance of value chain and supply chain in the agricultural marketing.
The occasion also organized the field visits and interactive sessions with the scientists at the ICAR-Central Potato Research Station, Patna.
The main objective of the programme was to improve the participants’ knowledge and skills regarding the different marketing functions, value chains and supply chain of agricultural products for the efficient marketing and realization of better prices.
A total of 17 officials from the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments of Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat, Sikkim and Leh-Ladakh participated in the course.
